On Sunday we went to Mt. Evans so Lyz could see some mountains. At the beginning of the road up, there was a sign warning folks that adverse weather conditions could happen at any time. No kidding! There was thunder, lightening, rain, hail, and snow as we progressed up in our car. Linus and I were hoping to see pikas, but we only saw a mountain goat. It was at the top of the mountain at just over 14,000 feet elevation. Right when someone pointed it out to us, the ranger sternly told everyone that the lightening was striking right there and we needed to get into our cars. It was rather exhilarating being in the clouds during a storm.
In the middle picture, Linus is looking for pikas near Summit Lake. He was softly saying, "Come out little pika." (He so totally takes after me!)

Don't forget to mention how thoughtful Linus was in wearing that fall-colored hat and his earth-ey-orang-ey sweater with the bison on it. Both accessories made him contrast nicely, yet fit in appropriately with his surroundings while up in the mountains. :)
When we were out there for Jason & Alizzy's wedding 2 years ago, our rental car was a convertible. John was out with the guys one day, and one of them convinced him to drive to the top of Mt. Evans. John is terrified of heights, but he thought it wouldn't be that bad. Ha. At the edge of the road it's a sheer drop down! He had to stop part-way up and let someone else drive, because he was about to throw up. He had to close his eyes the whole way down the mountain. I'm glad Linus has happier memories of Mt. Evans. :)
